Chapter 1 and 2 Reading and Assignment (Part 1)

For this chapter it discusses the comparison and contrast of the English language and the poetic form of language. It was said that poetry is a language that is within a language. In order to help this language it is written and read. In the poetic sense of language the appearance is what helps explain inspiration for any given piece. There are 3 things needed for a cohesive poem and that is the tone, the channel and language level. The quality of putting music to words also helps to emphasize the quality of the physical words. The assignment was to give the denotation (actual meaning of a word) and connotation (an idea that makes you think of a word) and write a definition entry as Koch displayed on PG 22.In chapter 2 it discusses the relationship between music and the different types of ways in which you can incorporate the music. One way is to add and place breaks or pauses, in music called (rest) to add a rhythmical feel to any poem. It also talked about metric and blank verse forms however, I am still confused with the concept of metric.

(Part 2)

When reading this weeks reading it really sparked my interest in the many different inspirations that poets use to express the language of poetry. The reading has me thinking of the music behind the words used in a poem. It ultimately helps not only the writer to express but gives readers the capability to sympathize with what the reader is saying. I have enjoyed doing the reading; it gave me insight and also helped me distinguish the English language from the Poetic language. In my personal writings I am working on finding inspiration in order to produce a cohesive piece of work that make sense.I struggled with the definition entry and how to correctly and properly write one as Koch did.

(Part 3)

Artistic Disciplines?

I am learning that the artistic process has a lot of thought behind creating a piece of work. I learned that people who have things to say and are pushed by the need to express themselves are writing in the poetry language. For a good poet it takes work and a good poet may change this language to his or her own likening, which brings upon different variations or forms of poetry.

Creativity in general? About writing in particular?

Creativity is very important when writing. How poets learn is to read others poetry and write their own. The appearance of a poem can also help distinguish what type of poem is going to be produced and even the audience it may attract. If words are placed in a weird order with no balance flow it can become senseless and irrelevant and as Koch states it’s as equivalent in ordinary language to a subject not agreeing with a verb.
